Tonight we are reading books all about families – which is PERFECT for Family Storytime!
The Great Big Book of Families (Hoffman) – A diverse celebration of families. We won’t read this whole book, but will use it as a springboard for discussing that each person’s family is unique and special.
Llama Llama Misses Mama (Dewdney) – Llama is worried about leaving his mom for his first day of preschool, but soon learns that he can have fun at school while waiting for mom to return.
Knuffle Bunny (Willems) – Chaos ensues when Knuffle Bunny is left at the laundromat, but the family works together to solve the problem. The combination of photographs and illustrations is charming, and Willems is a master of storytelling from a child’s point of view.
No storytime about families would be complete without singing “Where is Thumbkin?”
Try it at home:
My Pinterest page has a bunch of fun family activities pinned. I love the idea of having a “Date Night” with your kids – if you try it, let me know what you did!
