Family Storytime – 1/21/15 – Under the Sea!

Welcome back to Family Storytime.  This week’s theme is a fun one – Under the Sea!  Kids are naturally curious about what lives in the water, and we’ll have fun reading about some of those creatures at storytime.

Our books:

The Pout Pout Fish (Diesen) – With the story told in charming rhyme, the Pout Pout fish learns that perhaps he doesn’t have to be gloomy and glum.

I’m the Biggest Thing in the Ocean (Sherry) – One of Miss Lisa’s favorite storytime books!  A squid encounters many ocean creatures and discovers that he is bigger than most of them.  As his ego swells, he may learn that he is not the biggest thing in the ocean.

Little Fish Lost (Van Laan) – Little fish has lost his mother!  (But she’s not far from him).  As he tries to find her, he encounters many different types of creatures in and around the water hold he calls home.  Children will be delighted to try to find little fish’s mother on every page.

Action Rhyme – All of the Fish

This rhyme helps to reinforce size words (big, little), and is a lot of fun to act out swimming and splashing in the water!

All of the fish are swimming in the water,
Swimming in the water,
Swimming in the water.
All of the fish are swimming in the water,
Bubble, bubble, bubble, bubble – SPLASH!

Other verse – Great Big Fish; Little Bitty Fish

Song – Did You Ever See A Fishy?

Sung to the tune of “Did You Ever See A Lassie?”

Did you ever see a fishy, a fishy, a fishy?
Did you ever see a fishy,
Swim this way and that?
Swim this way and that way,
And that way and this way.
Did you ever see a fishy
Swim this way and that?
