Family Storytime – Colors! – Wednesday, March 5, 2014

Welcome back to storytime!  This week is the start of the Spring storytime session (I am so happy to finally be using the word SPRING!).

Our first theme for this session is Colors.  Our books:

Lemons Are Not Red (Laura Vaccaro Seeger) – This clever story introduces colors through cutout illustrations.  I discovered it in an earlier storytime session this year, and really enjoyed using it in my program.

Butterfly Butterfly (Peter Horacek) – On a spring day, a young girl sees a variety of colorful insects in her yard, finishing with a pop-up butterfly on the last page.

Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes (Eric Litwin) – We can’t do colors and not read a Pete the Cat book!  I love him!  What happens when Pete the Cat takes a walk in his nice, clean white shoes?

Glump Glump Went the Little Green Frog (Song)

Glump, glump went the little green frog one day.
Glump, glump went the little green frog.
Glump, glump went the little green frog one day.
And the frog went glump, glump, glump.

Other verses:
Quack, quack went the little yellow duck
Oink, oink went the little pink pig
Bow Wow went the little brown dog

Colors We Know (Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star)

Red and orange, green and blue, shiny yellow, purple too.
There are the colors that we know,
Way up high in the great rainbow.
Red and orange, green and blue, shiny yellow, purple too!

Some colorful play ideas can be found here.  Enjoy!
