Family Storytime – Colors – Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Can you believe we are over halfway through our Storytime season?  I feel like we just got started!

This week we will be taking a closer look at COLORS.

Our stories include a classic (Lionni’s A Color of His Own) and one of my favorite storytime concept books (Dog’s Colorful Day).  I am looking forward to using my “dog” flannelboard for the first time!

“Five Green and Speckled Frogs” is a classic children’s song, and I bet you’ll find yourself humming it throughout the day!

We will also be singing “Where is Blue Man?”  This is a “rewrite” of the “Where is Thumbkin?” song that most kids already know.  Rewriting familiar songs is a great way to reinforce new concepts.  For this rewrite, we will reinforce color identification:

Where is Blue Man?
To the tune of Where is Thumbkin?

Where is Blue Man?
Where is Blue Man?
Here he is!  Here he is!
He is very blue today!
Clap your hands for blue today!
Wave goodbye.  Wave goodbye.

Continue with other colors – Red Man, Yellow Man, Green Man

Don’t forget to check our Pintrest page – there are lots of great color crafts and activities there!
