Time for Twos Storytime – Friday, September 20, 2013 – Animal Sounds

Welcome to Time for Twos!  I am so glad you and your toddler will be joining us for the fall storytime session.

Each week, we will start our time together with our “Hello!” song.  This is sung with a recording, but it is very simple and both you and your toddler will know it soon.  Our weekly rhyme is Open, Shut Them:

Open, shut them,Open, shut them.
Give a little clap, clap, clap!
Open, shut them.
Open, shut them.
Put them in your lap.

Creep them, creep them,
creep them, creep them,
Up to your little chin.

Open up your little mouth,
but do not put them in!

This week we are learning about animal sounds.  By learning about the sounds animals make, your toddler is learning about all the different, unique sounds humans make when speaking the English language.  Being exposed to these animal sounds today will help your child be better prepared to read in the future!

We are reading these books:

We will have fun singing When Ducks Get Up in the Morning and finding the baby mice in Where Are the Baby Mice?

If you aren’t already familiar with Laurie Berkner, please borrow some of her music from the library!  We are using her fun song I Know A Chicken during Shaker Time today!

Routine is very important to toddlers, so we close storytime with the same rhyme and song each week.

Closing Rhyme – This is Big, Big, Big

This is big, big, big.
This is small, small, small.
This is short, short, short.
This is tall, tall, tall.
This is fast, fast, fast.
This is slow, slow, slow.
This is yes, yes, yes.
This is no, no, no.

Closing Song – We Wave Goodbye Like This  (to The Farmer in the Dell)

We wave goodbye like this.
We wave goodbye like this.
We clap our hands with all our friends,
We wave goodbye like this.

Thanks for coming to storytime this week!  We’ll see you and your toddler next Friday for more fun!
