Lapsit Storytime – Thursday, September 19, 2013 – Animal Sounds

Welcome to our first Lapsit Storytime for the fall session!

Each week, we will start our time together singing “We Clap and Say Hello!”  The tune is the same as The Farmer in the Dell.  If you aren’t familiar with it, don’t worry!  You’ll learn it quickly after just a week or two.

We Clap And Say Hello

We clap and say hello. We clap and say hello.
With our friends at storytime
We clap and say hello!

After our song, we will do the fingerplay Baby’s Game.  It’s very simple – just let the words direct your actions with your baby!

Baby’s Game

Touch your ears, pat your nose,
Tickle baby’s little toes.
Hide your eyes, where are you?
Baby’s playing Peek-A-Boo!

We will open our Lapsit storytime in the same way every week.  Babies love repetition!

Today we are learning about “Animal Sounds.”

We are reading these books:

Each week, we will share a “bounce rhyme” with the babies.  Young babies (and toddlers who want to sit) can sit in your lap for these rhymes; toddlers on the move can share in hand clapping along with the rhythm.  Here is this week’s rhyme:

A farmer went trotting upon his gray mare,
With his daughter behind him so rosy and fair.
Then a duck cried out “QUACK!”
And the all tumbled down,Off of the horse and upside down!

We will also sing this song and recite this rhyme.

Look for these other books about animals in our collection!

Thanks for coming to Storytime – see you next week!
